Stefan had been born with a craniofacial clefting condition causing his eyes to be forced apart by 5cm. He also had a cleft of his upper lip and jaw, but his family had not been able to afford the medical bills on Milos’s £144-a-month wage.
Stefan, then four, had no nose and he could not see straight ahead. Without major surgery, the lump would continue to grow, making him blind and constricting his airways.
